Job Fairs, Paid Placements & Training with St. Stephen’s Community House

REDY Program
REDY (Reducing Energy Demand with Youth) is a 5-day hands-on training program to help youth 18-30 land a green job. Prior to the hands-on training, youth will participate in a 4-day pre-employment training component.

To learn more about the REDY program, come to our information session on either Tuesday, March 6th or Thursday, March 8th, 2012.

Opportunity Knocks
Opportunity Knocks is a way for youth to get the experience they need to find and keep a job, all while earning an income. The program is for youth, 30 and under, who do not have a high school diploma (either because they left school before earning one or their diploma is not recognized in Canada). New sessions will be offered on a monthly basis.

The program consists of two weeks of paid pre-employment training followed by a 12-week paid job placement.

March Break Job Fairs
Our Student Jobs Service (SJS) will hold job fairs and other employment related workshops, during the week of March Break (12th-15th). The job fairs will be open to all students, 15-30, returning to school in the Fall.

For students that would like to fix-up their résumé and/or practice for an interview, counsellors will by available from 11am-1pm.

Monday, March 12th: Résumé Workshop, 1-3pm
Tuesday, March 13th: Sheridan Nurseries Job Fair, 1-3pm
Wednesday, March 14th: UrbanArts, 1-3pm
Thursday, March 15th: Centreville, 1-3 & Scholarship Information, 3-4pm

Connections Training & Job Placement Program

Connections is an 18-week training program assisting newcomers in securing employment. It consists of 12 weeks of in class training in Intermediate computers (no prior experience necessary), Customer Service Excellence and Business English, followed by a six-week co-op placement.

Eligibility:

  • Immigrated to Canada
  • Currently on social assistance
  • Speak English as a second language

Next session begins Monday, April 9th, 2012.
